bump!
This dvd rocksss! Having goose bump while watching. Finally seeing the faces of various makers and all the things to do with pedals on TV
Fuzz wasnt just the main focus, theres scene on the various makers workshop, talking a lil bit on noise/fuzz making pedals vs safe sounding pedals, internet forum bitchings, hype and ignorant on pedals(true byapss, transistors, resale value, ebay and stuff)
Electro harmonix having quite a bit of time in the show. Mike matthews showing round EH workshops, most of the staff doing soldering for muff fuzz, flanger hoax, DMM etc(shown in the show) are women from south america. Also shown the back of a china lady working on micro series of effect.
Death by audio having some time too, interview with the maker and his collaborator, some interesting looking customed DBA pedals and a look into the area where DBA stuff are made, having a jamming studio, workshop etc in the building
others who appeared on it and interviewed, steve albini on harmonic percolator, Skreddy, craig anderton, Paul C( tim/timmy), john cusack, snake oil strings maker, BJF(funny dude he is), Jeorge tripp, guy who did the discofrequency site for pedals archiving plus those names on the cover of the dvd, some other producer, guitar tech and shop owners, harmony central staff...
This dvd must get, for anyone into pedals(and not just fuzz). For the pedal geek in anyone, this one, shud get..

bump for something interesting on the dvd, althou its been a while, but just happen to see it now...
".....I did Tonefest 2006 and will never do it again! We flew Bjorn in along with his wife and the entire MP team. I arranged for Cliff and his film crew to film the event for his film. The space we used has been built out and is now my office complete with an 3-sided golf sim, pool table, wet bar, card table and amp room. As you can see by the film many of the interviews were edited to make people look foolish. What really boggles my mind was the fact that Cliff interviewed people no one knows, no one has ever heard of and they came off like experts, while those who really are the experts were made fun of. Many of the interviews were done at the end of the day once people were completely trashed. There was no shortage of booze, I think i spent 2k on booze for 50 guys! The idea of ToneFest was to bring a select group from the boutique builders to 5-6 locations across the USA. We had it all set up, spent way too much money on advertising, local marketing for the first fest and had many large companies begging us to work with them. At the end of the day there is no way to make money doing this, so there is no reason for me to waste my time. Loni's shows are the best, we were considering working with him for a new show in Chicago. Again, it became a time vs.ROI issue for me.
Tonefest is not a group of guys playing each others pedals. It was a chance to meet those who built the products, interact with them, spend some time getting to know them and hopefully coming away with from the event realizing Forums are not ******pedias.
We focused on guitars, amps and those that had not had a lot of market awareness. There were some gems for sure, but the public didn't show up.
To further back up the above, Premier Guitar attempted to buy us out. They had a desire to do NAMM style shows all over the world. For over a year we went back and forth. I kept telling them there as no profit in the show, so they needed to find a way to make money off it. They did the Boston show, spent 250K and cancelled the rest. The are now the sponsor of Loni's LA show
If you want a ToneFest go to NAMM! If you want to try all this stuff in a nice setting, in privacy go to Make'N Music and use their private room for as long as you like with out any pressure to buy anything. The interesting thing is for me, is that there are small guitar shops in everyones area that should be visited and you should feel obligated to shop at them since they built this industry. You'll be treated well, you'll get return policy's and you wont have to see anyone from The Gear Page...."
