apologies accepted! I only agree he is highly over-rated in recent times lah. In the 70s, he did great work... with the Bluesbreakers ad Cream. All the way till the early 80's, that's when I personally felt he din do anything good musically. Everything seemed rehashed and a cure for insomnia.. until he came out with Unplugged, which incidentally got me onto guitar playing.. hence me hero. The next 2 albums were good.. then its back to the drawl. seriously lah, my take is this. Sunshine Of Your Love solo has so much feel in it... I dunno its psychedelia projecting or just brooding darkness into a chasm of rainbows.... I don't think Eric Clapton is overrated at ALL - if you think so then you should really watch his concert DVDs, because i think that's where his magic really is. Clapton has never denied his blues roots; which influenced him even more during his long recovery from drug rehab. I think of his songs during unplugged as a tribute to the blues masters, so saying that he is 'ripping off' muddy waters or whoever else is being a little harsh. Mr 'slowhand' was and still a resident of the pantheon of guitar gods, and he was very much the british counterpart of Jimi Hendrix in terms of influence at the time, although in his own words he knew he could never be the guitar god that Hendrix was once he saw Hendrix play live and felt his stage presence. But watch Eric Clapton in concert and youll realise that he improvs over all his songs, and doesnt play them the same way on the records. That's why his shows are always packed, and that's why he's the man - watching him play improv is sublime - the choice of notes, the feel, the TONE. He may not play a million notes a second, but every note he plays counts. He plays with the very best - steve gadd, nathan east, all legends in their own right, and the musical interaction between all of them is - for lack of a better word - awesome. And incidentally, if you ever wonder why people love his strat, his name on the headstock may be one thing, but the versatility of it is amazing. The mid boost switch on his strat makes it sing like a les paul, and Clapton switches effortlessly between that strat and les paul tone just by playing with his volume and tone knobs.

Everyone builds on what had gone on b4... in fact I'd be shocked if Clapton or any one for the matter of fact has not ripped off anyone/ their influences... This kinda topic is bloody boring and flogged to death lah... I mean, the most important thing is to know: "Are there enuff room for all the groupies in the tour bus after the show?"
