Hello =)
Anyone here have a Proco Rat 2? If so, what kind of sounds can you squeeze out of it? Would it be suitable for more modern rockish sounds? Or even to the extent of indie-ish rock sounds.
Think low end sounds, yet defined and not blaring. Is it anything like that? Just want to hear your thoughts on it...

the Rat cleans up nicely and breezes through chords with a light crunch while single note solo sing with a hint of grit. Pushed to the max, the Rat goes beyond fuzz with a shred-like sizzle that sustains for days. Tweaking is the key to finding your own take on the Rat sound. The Filter knob is has far reaching possibilities and you can effectively eliminate any hint of low or high-end with a twist in either direction. two favorite settings captured the raspy valve-crunch of the early Kinks and the saturated squash of Catherine Wheel with amazing accuracy.
And if u listen to Blur or Radiohead's My Iron Lung, u'll notice Rat.
The sound of the Rat is simply unique for an overdrive/distortion. The sound that'll stay in my mind.

if you are looking for a low end one.. u might have to get the rat modded to get that heavier sound.. ah seng or airhole might be able to help you with the mod.. but if u wanna get a new rat2 from me.. u know u just have to ask nicely..   |

Ah MrMisse you sexy beast you, a price check on that proco rat 2 please! Quick question, I've heard sample clips and it sounds a lot like a fuzz box? That's not what I was going for, yet a friend of mine swears by it for his thick distortion sounds. Anyone here with first hand experience? |

imho, large part of the tone of pedals actually come from the amp(speaker, eq setting etc) that the pedal is being in use..
Sound clips can only show a small part of the whole picture. Best thing? Try out the pedal, tweak it and hear the full range of it.

the Rat.... is quite a versatile pedal.. it can range from a almost clean boost ... to overdrive.. to distortion... to fuzz..... ;D wish i had one...  |

looks like everyone describes very well about the rat.
i'll just add that it has that thick mean growl which i really love about..lower gain sounds good, higher gain it tends to show the fuzz character

yeah i used to gig with one as well.. the rat2.. i mean its versatile, it's got LED, built like a tank and has glow-in-the-dark 'RAT' words, is 9v, has a batt compartment, has room for some good mods.. what more can u ask for in a $150 pedal?.. ;D

Eye C. Et is knot eez fur me two git de ProCoRat2 two tess so Eye wood knot noe. ok tired already. So is the Procorat2 essentially a fuzz box? Because I am not a fan of the fuzz, and for the kind of music I play it would be most inappropriate. The growling sounds good though hide. Dearest Ah Seng, just what mod is that? I mean, what's the sound difference. I reallllllllly need to get myself a dist. pedal soon. Mr misse you are funny. |

basically.. the rats are distortion pedals.. u get them not for the fuzz that some people see in them.. they get it for the gain n versatility in them..
