Sometime when looking for pedals purchase and such. Seem to come across reviews which says this pedal is the next best thing to sex/tone heaven/holy grail of all or remark lilke even a cow can moooo better(ok, thats my version of sucks). Did anyone shun the pedal just because reviews say that its really so bad or go ahead and buy the pedal to realise that its not that bad at all....
Anyway, the point is that, did anyone really expect a pedal to change the tone from bad to better when it could just be the amp that make the bigger difference than any other bloody cost too much pedals??
When i started playing with effect, mostly boss pedals thru a small 15w vantage amp. It seem rather boxy sounding and some of the pedals, i just brush it aside till many years later when i got a better amp and with the same boss effect, the tone just have a totally different sound thru the vantage amp.
Guess some people ever said this,
cheapo guitar+normal pedals+good amp= good tone good guitars+boutique pedals+lousy amp= tone killa
So, save up for a good amp with nice clean tone before spending pedals and such. The tone might just improve a lot....
Just some thots i had while cutting my hair at the neighbourhood barber shop ;D

that's definitely true. i'm using a cheapo 10w practice amp and when i brought back my new toy (double muff, courtesy of yong) last week, having played it through his amp at his stall and sounding real good, was disappointed with the tone. brought it to the studio for my weekly jam with my mates and there was the good tone again. definitely need to buy a better amp to play at home in the near future, to hell with the neighbours.

hahaha.. u know what.. i think the rest of us here have tot that Ed was Edwin from WMUM.. haha.. well the mention of the EHDM tells me u r Eddie from Sofa Kings eh..
anyway.. wat u've all been saying is rather true.. amp plays a hhhuge part in defining ur sound.. which is also why alot of guitarists r willing to splurge more on amp heads than on pedals.. I just managed to catch Chris, formerly from Heritage, last night at Sullivan's when (they call themselves) Vintage Blues Band was playing.. n rightly so.. man, they r amazing!! Chris was just using a Fender Strat n a Vox Wah through a Marshall half stack.. but the tone was really good.. n of coz his playing feel was spot on.. they were playing all sorts of blues cover from Clapton to Hendrix to Pink Floyd (brick in the wall in a blues fashion) to John Mayall to Dire Straits n many more n damn!! every song sounds so good..
before i got my Laney VC30, i couldnt get any of my wahs to sound decent but hey, now i know they have all passed the QC.. jus my little bit of experience..

hmmm, is omsoundlabs=ed the techie..... very likely so.. say something eh.. heheh.. dun get me into "giving free pedals so people will join the forum" issue again.. i was talking to someone who came my place to test out distortion pedals n he told me that he was going to take lessons from this michael ingre guy.. (i know i spelt that wrongly.. but i hope it's not too far off.. ) anyhow, michael told my friend that he doesnt need any pedals.. jus spend money on a half stack or some good amp heads n that's it.. interesting eh..

good combo amp maybe is enough. A half stack in local hdb or high rise apartment is such a sight, but how useful can it be if its always at low volume....
Also depend on style of the person playing the guitar i guess. Hehehe, cant expect a shredder to go into knob tweaking instead of the neck wanking or vice versa.....
