Decide to make this a real discussion... so i transfered it here...
on a more serious note. I am just wondering.. why are there so many overdrives around??
Wat is it that ppl are looking for in an overdrive pedal?
I came to a few ideas of what they want.... do contribute if u have more ideas.
1) mid-boost hump (like TS-9)
2) fuller fatter tone (Fulldrive 2)
3) extra boost channel (Fulldrive 2)
4) smooth and transparent
5) enough gain
6) presence (the sound of being HERE!) like WMUM pedal
7) Dynamics
hmmm.. anything else?

i think the word is MOJO.. or something unique..
a good range of drive..
some though, prefer edginess, raw, grainy drives..

i personally don't care how it looks like.
i think i'm attracted to the range of the OD, the wider, the bigger the range, the more versatile, the more iwould like it for different styles.

quite often, when someone mentioned bout finding their holy grail of overdrive pedal, they might mention bout having a pedal that has the response, characteristic of a overdriven amp tone. It always got me thinking, what the heck is that.
Why are there certain overdrive pedal having the marshall in a box, tweed in a box or dumble in a box, ac30 in a box kinda description. Is it really like that. How bout if i used a marshall in a box with a marshal amp. Will it be more marshall than marshall??
hehe, what is transparency in a overdriven pedal? My own definition is that when the pedal is engaged, it only add on the crunch, dirt tone to the clean, without much changes to the bass/treble/mid/presence. But the thing is, since it already added changes to the clean tone, so how can it be transparent.....
hehe, iam also getting lost in what i wrote...
8) natural sounding compression ala overdriven amp?
oh, what about the tube sag thingy?
9) Cheap, good(to the buyer), new and believeing its the best od pedal that has ever been invented.
10) Wanting Lord's overdriven tone...... what they need, is a landgraff.....

I like my Jekyll & Hyde becuz it's soooo cute... lookit..  Just like a lil cute tombstone... wooooo I like... (Mine's the old version though...) and it's got its lil MT-2 clone companion (Hyde) to go along with it.... sooo cute... Less is more but more is still more.... I love tweaking its lil knobs to get more sustain outta it... woooo.... soooo nice... OKay I think that's enough for the day... |

OKay I think that's enough for the day... i just laughed out loud in the office man. shjit! tombstone!!! wahahha eh airhole, i think wide range... i think i'm asking alot.. i'm thinking of something that has range in terms of dynamics, tone, drive, sustain. if it can cover a wide range, then i think its worth it. but like some said, this "jack of all trades" pedal might not be liked by others cause it can so so many but master of none... so some pple might actually want an od that has that special boost or tone or dunno what shit. |
