who are the guitarist whose tone you like??
for me,
j mascis- just loud and more loud of dirty fuzz tone, thot it really suit the music he is playing
eric johnson- like his tone, but wont want to have it, its too obvious where it comes from if anyone have the same one
David gilmour- probably why i got a strat in the first place, before that, wasnt too much a single coil person
Explosion in the sky- when i first heard them, thot the clean sound is really fantastic. After a while, it just got to me that the power of it actually comes from the melody of the music

the edge(U2)-achtung baby period,for the sweetest guitar sound ever!
jeff buckley-for his liquid-like guitar sound and playing
robert smith(the cure)-for the wonders of delay and chorus and one string solos
simon raymonde(cocteau twins)-guitar sound from heaven
gary lucas(captain beefheart)-for not using guitar like how it is meant to be used
takuya(judy and mary)-for simply having the weirdest but kickass telecaster sound
uffe cederlund(entombed)-if i ever play metal again, this will be the ideal sound
david torn(david bowie, david sylvian)-weeping guitar sounds that no one (i think) can ever pull off
ritchie blackmore(deep purple)-stormbringer period, for having the warmest strat sound during the 70's

dominc chad (mansun) - amazing simple yet spaced out jingling riffs n textures..
jonny greenwood (radiohead) - his weird arse solos n his work on creating out of the world sounds..
john scofield - just ripping jazz to a new level..
bernard butler (suede) - beautiful melodic stuff..
trey anastacio (phish) - creative improviser..

Let me revive the topic proper
1) Scott Henderson - most authentic SRV tone and then some!
2) Mike Landau - most authentic Hendrix tone and then some!
3) Clapton's live tone
4) Jeff Beck - So visceral is his tone...
5) Jimmy Herring (from ARU, the Dead) - Screaming overdriven sound.... I like!
6) Andy Summers - Textural & mysterious. Chorus and Delay I like (other than The Edge)
7) Pat Metheny - very horn-like guitar tones.. with horn-like lines...
so many more.. have to think more!!!
