hehe, one of my "favourite "best" of question", finally appearing in the forum..... ;D
Entirely below is just my opinion. Pardon me if it sound stupid.
What is the guitar you gonna put in those pickup,
Through what amp will you be using
Through what sort of effect, especially the most used effect that you will be using those pickup through(clean/OD/distortion/fuzz etc),
What area of improvement are you expecting in 3 pickups you have mentioned, over the stock pickup in the guitar
What is the reason for selecting this 3 model of PU
Hope no confusion created. If you are able to wire up the pickups on your own, just experiment with the combination. There might be something interesting which most people that follow usual configuration of pickups will never know.
.... and seriously, i have no ideas over pickups at all(no joke) ;D
i believe your question on duncan or any dimarzio/emg pickups will be better answered in soft.com.sg forum. There are firm believers of changing pickups to play certain genre over there. And they have always mentioned about the above 3 brands in there ;D
For me, stock pickup is goot enough, most of the time. Unless otherwise...

hey...thanks for your input...
gonna fit the pu onto a epi black beauty which is really a spare spare spare guitar but i have been wanting to change the pickups. i have got a dimarzio air norton and tone zone config on my zachary and they sound awesome...
but considering that there are 3 hums on the bb, i might as well change all 3 at one go, which led tme to this whole 3 pickup config stuff.
i understand where you are coming from with the questions what amps and effects you would go in your rig...in fact what kind of music too man
well, not much of an idea but i will levae out effects and the guitar would go thru a tube amp (sooner or later~~hehehe) and i want to put something heavy into it....
duncans because i wnat to try them out....so maybe i could specify better with the following:
Which 3 Duncan pickups would you install in an black Beauty considering Duncans are your only options and your rig will be straight thru a tube amp with maybe a super hard on in between and you are playing heavy stuff???
the best i could come up with is Pearly Gates-NECK/ Custom Custom-MIDDLE/ Screamin' Demon-BRIDGE
what's yours???
looking forward to more advice.... i knew i would be able to get some help from here... ;D

hmmmm, ok, i admit, iam blinded by mine own stupidity to not to see the black beauty in the title of the thread hehe, anyway, if iam the one, i wont changed the stock pickup unless there are area which iam not happy with it, able to hear the weaknesses and know that the changed pickup are going to improve in the lacking area. As for which duncan, that i dont noe either. Iam on the side of thinking that tone differences has more things to do with the amp used then what ever pickup used. Hehe, that can be interpreted as i really dont know much about pickup seriously ;D Another factor which you have mentioned on the heavy stuff through it. Imo, i tend to believe that having any heavy gain through any pickup( in this case, humbucker), with a combo amp(tube or non tube) at least, the tone wont sound too big a different from having heavy gain thru those duncan pickups. But off course, i could be wrong.. I have a pair of gibson 57 PU on my semi hollow bodied guitar, although its low ouput compared to most other pickups. Having it thru the sansamp GT-2 or a mesa v twin into my amp. It aint sounding weak at all. The heaviness probably "cover" up everything in the pickup... Hehe, i is of no advice, its a forum afterall, just trading views. Did you notice that through out all the threads in this forum, gear or no gear related, how little thread are there about pickups. I think this might be the first actually. This probably shows a certain pattern of the forum ;D

dude how to give opinions if i or none of us here own the same epi BB that u have la? here's a suggestion, just do it as wat u have in mind and then if it doesnt sound good then sell off the pups and change it heh and btw u mentioned a SHO in between? well if u have tht then i believe any pups new/old/crappy or squier or SX guitar pups, it'll sound good coz thats what the SHO does to the pups
my 0.02 cents

Basically, I am with 44ofJuly...
but for me, the fundamental question is, does the COST of the pickups justify the improvment in tone?
In most cases, no. you pay $120 or more for each pickup... so you add a total value of $360 or more into the guitar... after changing the pups, does it sound $360 better? Usually not. If it is much better, then its a good deal.
Why change pups at all? I only change pups cos they sound muddy in my set up. But sometimes muddy can be easily solved by EQing.
The other thing to think about, why change all 3? Do you always use only one pup? I know that I love my LP's neck... and dun really like the bridge...
but heck, I always use the neck anyway, and since I love, I am not changing any pups on that guitar. period.
Just some thoughts to jog you thinking lah... beware of marketing hype and sales... hurhur..
cheers, airhole

it's really personal preferences.. if you are really bent on changing pickups.. try it and see if there are any differences.. i'm sure there are but will the change be actually audible and worth it.. since you said that you are saving up for a tube amp.. i'd suggest that you read up n try different amps and concentrate in getting a good amp first because when the amp sounds good.. any crappy guitar with crappy pickups wouldnt sound so bad after all.. seriously.. amp's the most important factor imho..

I agree with da boss:) I'd spend $$$ on a good amp rather than upgraded pickups first.
