So i went to Swee Lee bras basah to check out the Ibanez Talman TCM50. The place was packed and I hated their tendency to prioritize adult customers who apparently are more likely to buy stuff then and there. I can understand the value of your service allocation but please don't make it so obvious! I came first but then suddenly you serve this old guy with his son who has an interest in high-end acoustics (obviously to be sponsored by good ol' dad.. TSK!).
I waited 5mins.. and with a show to catch at Flux Us, I had to make a smart assed move to help myself. So I picked up the Talman and looked around for an amp. Spotted the Ibanez Troubadour acoustic amplifier but it was not powered. I recalled Harmony Central Reviewers running their Talmans through a Line 6 Spider II or a Pignose Hog 20 or a Koch Twintone or an American class-A (Matchless). So i spontaneously decided that to walk over to the other side and plug it in through a Peavey would be fine.
I did that and boy, did the baby impress! Sounded so sweet and crisp. I loved it immediately. Then suddenly some Newbie (in his 40's) sales assistant confronted me and warned against plugging it up like that. "Hey! Cannot like that! If electro-acoustic, must plug in through acoustic amp! If not, the pick-up will go bust! I know through experience.. "
Okay.. so i surrendered but not without politely pointing out that the Talman had magnetic pups unlike normal piezo pups on other electro-acoustics. So there must have some flexibility in the amp section. Furthurmore, many have used it through electric guitar amps right? He refused to consider what I was saying. He kept saying.. "I know from experience.. that's why they came up with the acoustic amp. If not what for they come up with the acoustic amp?"
I wanted so much to shoot back but I felt it'd be better to do more research on this issue. Besides, i didn't want to be late for Flux Us.
I thought about it.. yeah right.. through his experience. Did they have electro-acoustics with magnetic pups back then? If so confined to acoustic amp, why did Ibanez create this magnetic pup thingy and identified it as "revolutionary" whereas the amp setback still lingers? Grr.. I tried to contact Ibanez but somehow i was linked to Swee Lee website.. waah!
Ok so I give the man's experience the benefit of the doubt that all electro-acoustics MUST use acoustic amp. But i will refuse to get one. Right now, putting the Talman on hold. So what say you guys? Am i being such an act smart punk-ass?
