i dunno, dun you think a 30 watt amp is way too loud?
if u want that natural power tube distortion, 30 watts is as loud as 100 watts....
even my 12 watt tube is killing me already....

my .0002 cent, even if the tubey cant be operating at hi volume at home, the tone can be quite good sounding. Although part of the factor cud be due to the 2x12 combo iam using. As for my playing volume in my room is only bout 1 at a comfortable hearing volume...... The tone? Well, it sounds good for a 50w combo to be at only one. Playing at low volume also good for tubes life i guess....
As for the hot plate, i had one in the THD unvalve head. Although the built in unit is of some slight differences to the standalone unti. It still does the job. But at the highest attenuation, the tone is rather fuzzy sounding, i dont really like it...... imho, the hotplate should be used sparsely and not really "restrict" the amp from sounding out like how it shud be.

Hi, actually the watt is not so much of how loud it really is. But it also tells you abt how much room you have till the amp breaks up.
Also 20w is not twice as loud as 10w.

That is right. power operates on a logarthmic scale... so by perception, 100 watts is as loud as 50 watts ....
