LDR's can be had from sim lim tower. they have lots of different sorts so buy a bunch and find the one you like.

I think for the boss pedal a two wire hookup will work so an LDR with a resistor in parallel is all that is needs. I'd try using a variable resistor in parallel to find the best range, them measure the variable resistor and replace with a fixed one of that value.
