Hello bros bros... need to tap into your brain for a moment and I will be very gamsia. I am making 30 contact microphones (buying ready made ones at $18 is way toooo expensive) so making them is my best options.
For now, the pick up is important for me and I know the usual is to go for a Piezo Transducer 273-073A; however, I've also read somewhere they are designed to emit a 2500hz tone +-500hz, which means what we are getting is probably 2000-3000hz with some leakage around those frequencies. There were counter suggestions that "273-091B" (Piezo Speaker Element) is a better choice (not sure if Singapore have though)... the frequency range is 700hz to 10khz, more superior...
Want to know if there's any other alternatives based on bros bros extensive experiences in electronics... available in sim lim tower... Gamsia!

hey bro, bout those thing, i have seen some at simlim tower 3rd floor and bought one before to play around. but i have since dismantle the thing and sorta destory it. problem is that iam not sure bout the frequency range thingy whether those available at simlim are the same one or not. Heh, perhaps angmojo knows something bout those thingy on to generic one, this is what i got sometime back, to do the contact thingy for the triggering of the mini drum synth.

Don't know what those numbers are (273-073A), are they parts catalogue numbers for mouser or someone? I think the Sim Lim people would look at you funny if you mentioned those numbers.
All the piezo's I've come across have a big mid range hump in the response. I don't think there is much you can do about it. A DI box or some kind of buffer is worth using to match the impedance.

Hello Bro Bros, thanks for the lead. Just a note: DON'T GO SPACE ELECTRONICS! ... the boss and staffs don't even know what is what and their mic cables are expensive 100m for $200 (3-core)... madness... and Angmojo, apparently they do have 273-073A (buzzer), and when I mentioned they do know about it, but I think you are right though, coz I think they recognize the word "buzzer" more than the number, sorry for being noob!... but for the buzzer we'll have to crack the case open to access the disc, and prolly cost a bit more than the disc alone and to crack 30 cases is too much extra... Anyway, I asked for Piezo Disc and the boss say "what's that?" ... and I said I'm using to make contact mic... uncle says "what is contact microphone?"... after much explanation he knew what I wanted to do and say, "oh, the 273-073A (buzzer) and Piezo Disc is a speaker element and cannot be used as a mic input"... sigh... even a headphone can become a microphone, we all know that and in Barcelona one of the DJs actually mc'ed with a headphone... duh... so for me, Space Electronics is banned on my list... too bad it's the only shop opened today, think it's holiday. Just sharing, I'll check out other stores tomorrow... Gamsia!

here's a couple I made from piezos at slt. The one on the left is stereo for an H2 recorder. It's got a preamp too. Not quite finished...waiting for a mint tin. The other one has a phantom powered buffer inside the xlr A hot glue gun is handy otherwise the wires on the back will break off all the time. Little magnets are handy for sticking these to things too. The shop downstairs in the basement corner at SLT has really strong little magnets.

Today I made 5x5m contact mics... 5 down, 25 more to go... so far so good. This is rather addictive...

It's for a theatre production I am sound designing and composing music for... the show is by The Finger Players called: WHISPERS<<私房话>>[/url] it's a play about women... anyway, there's this beautiful and experimental set by Lim Weling, and I decided to contact mic the entire set so that when they move around on the set they will create part of the sound scape, I'll sample and process them along the way plus minimalist piano on top (for now)... so many to make, actually 30 not enough one... but what to do, budget lor... thanks to bros bros help and interest here!
